The wait is usually the reason people give up

Deciding to start therapy is the hard part. What happens next is often worse: you call four practices, three don’t call back, and the one that does puts you on a list. By the time a slot appears, the moment that made you pick up the phone has passed.

That gap is where most people quietly stop trying. It isn’t a failure of motivation. It’s what happens when the effort required to get help arrives at exactly the point you have least of it.

I’m Kevin B. Stachowiak, MSW, LMSW, and this is a solo practice — which is the whole reason this page exists. I keep my own calendar. There is no intake team, no referral queue, and no list you get added to and then forgotten on.

What happens when you get in touch

You call, email, or send a message through the portal. I reply — usually within one business day, and it’s me replying, not an administrator.

If you’d like one, we have a free 15-minute conversation first. No charge, no obligation, and no expectation that you book anything at the end of it. It exists so you can hear how I work and decide whether you want to keep going, which is a reasonable thing to want before committing money and vulnerability to a stranger.

If it’s a fit, we schedule. If it isn’t, I’ll say so and point you somewhere better. I’d rather do that in fifteen minutes than have you find out in session three.

An honest word about availability

Availability changes. This page says I’m accepting new clients because I am at the time of writing, and I’d rather tell you plainly than leave a stale promise sitting here. If that changes, this page changes.

Availability last checked: August 8, 2026. What won’t change is the answer you get. If I don’t have room, I’ll tell you that on the first call rather than adding you to a list — and I’ll point you toward colleagues and to the Genesee County resources that might get you seen sooner.

Good to know

Getting started: common questions

Are you actually accepting new clients right now?

Yes at the time of writing. Availability genuinely changes, so if you'd like certainty, call (810) 207-5384 and ask — you'll get a straight answer rather than being added to a list.

How soon could I be seen?

It depends on what's open and what times work for you, so I won't promise a number I can't keep. What I can say is that a solo practice with no intake queue usually moves faster than a group practice with a waitlist, and you'll know where you stand after one conversation.

Do I have to do the free consultation first?

No. Some people want it, others would rather just book. Either is fine.

What if I need to be seen today?

This isn't an emergency service. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911. For urgent but non-emergency needs, Genesee Health System and the resources on my Genesee County page can often move faster than a private practice.

Do you take my insurance?

Most major plans, including BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and Medicaid. I'll help you verify your benefits before we start so there are no surprises.

You don’t have to wait to be told whether this will work

A free 15-minute consultation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
