When everything feels heavier than it should

Depression can be quiet. It doesn't always look like crying — sometimes it's numbness, exhaustion, or just going through the motions while the color drains out of things you used to enjoy. You might be getting by on the outside while feeling empty underneath. Depression is common and highly treatable, and reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness.

I'm Kevin B. Stachowiak, MSW, LMSW, and for more than 30 years I've helped people move from surviving to genuinely living again. Together we'll understand what's keeping you stuck and take small, doable steps back toward energy, connection, and hope.

Signs you might recognize

  • Persistent low mood, emptiness, or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Fatigue, low motivation, or feeling slowed down
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Harsh self-criticism, guilt, or feeling like a burden
  • Pulling away from people and activities

How therapy helps

Evidence-based, tailored to you

Depression convinces you that nothing will help — therapy gently proves otherwise. I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to soften the harsh, hopeless thinking depression feeds on, and behavioral activation to rebuild momentum one manageable step at a time. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness help you relate to difficult feelings differently and reconnect with what gives your life meaning. We work at a pace that feels possible, never overwhelming.

My style is warm, down-to-earth, and collaborative. You don't have to have it figured out before you come in — that's what we do together. See all therapy services →

Good to know

Depression therapy: common questions

What's the difference between sadness and depression?

Sadness is a normal response to hard moments and tends to lift. Depression is heavier and more persistent — low mood, loss of interest, and fatigue that last two weeks or more and interfere with daily life. You don't need to hit a certain threshold to deserve support.

Do you offer depression therapy by telehealth?

Yes. I see clients in person in Grand Blanc and by secure video across Michigan and 14 other states. Telehealth can make it easier to start when leaving the house feels like a lot.

Do I need medication for depression?

Not necessarily. Therapy alone helps many people, and for others a combination of therapy and medication works best. As a licensed therapist I don't prescribe, but I'm glad to coordinate with your physician or a psychiatrist if medication is part of your care.

Do you take insurance for depression therapy?

Yes — most major plans, including BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, and Medicaid. Self-pay and superbills for out-of-network reimbursement are also available. See fees & insurance →
